The insights page turns your tracked time into a summary for a date range you choose. Open it from the Time tracker page; it lives at Time tracker insights. It's the date-ranged summary view — for the same groupings laid out as a pivot across days, months, or years, use Time tracker reports instead.
Picking a range
The header has a from – to button that opens a date-range editor. Your choice is remembered per browser, and the page opens on the last 7 days by default. Everything on the page — the totals, the breakdown, and the chart — reflects the selected range.
What it shows
- Stat cards — headline totals for the range, such as total tracked time and an average per day.
- Breakdown — your tracked time grouped by whichever dimension you pick, so you can see where the hours went.
- Daily timeline — a chart of tracked time per day across the range.
Choosing what to group by
The breakdown card has a dropdown offering the same groupings as Time tracker reports:
- By name — the entry name, falling back to the name of its first linked task.
- By tag — every tag on the entry.
- By client, by project, by task — reached through the tasks the entry links to, and the projects and clients those tasks belong to.
Your choice is remembered per browser. A second toggle switches the bars between a single colour and one colour per row.
Two things to know about the totals:
- Rows can add up to more than the range total. An entry can carry several tags, link several tasks, and reach several projects and clients, and it contributes its full duration to each one. Only by name counts every entry exactly once. The percentages are shares of the bucket total, so the bars still fill to 100%.
- A running timer counts toward name, tag, and task, but not project or client. The timer keeps ticking into its own row live; the project and client groupings only include entries you've already stopped.
An entry with nothing to group by gets a catch-all row instead: Untitled when it has no name, Untagged when it has no tags, and Unassigned when it links no client, project, or task.
The daily timeline
Below the breakdown, every entry in the range is drawn as a chip on its own day, positioned by the time of day it ran. Hovering a chip shows its name, its start and end, how long it lasted, and its tags. The hour scale stays anchored at the top while you scroll, and a line follows your pointer with the time it is over.
The timeline is not just a picture — you can correct your records straight from it:
- Click a chip to open that entry in the usual edit dialog, without leaving the page.
- Drag a chip to move it to another time or another day, or drag either end to change when it starts or stops. Times snap to 15 minutes, and the change is saved as soon as you let go.
- Undo appears beside the chart's toggles after a drag, so a mistaken move is one click away. It is offered briefly and is gone after a reload.
Two rules limit what a drag can do. An entry can't overlap another one — a chip turns red while it is over an occupied slot, and releasing it there leaves the entry where it was — and an entry can't end in the future. A running timer has no end to drag, so its chip is read-only until you stop it.
Exporting
The Export action opens the insights exports page, where you generate a downloadable report for the current range. You can break the report down by name, tag, client, project, or task — the same groupings as the page — and the choice adapts to the format:
- PDF — a formatted report with one section per grouping.
- XLS — one tab per grouping.
- CSV — a single grouping that you pick.
The picker starts on whichever grouping you were viewing, so a CSV matches the chart you just looked at. Exports run in the background; download finished ones from the export history. See Export data for how exports work in general.
On mobile
The mobile app has a native insights screen: the same stat tiles and the same grouping dropdown, with the breakdown rendered as an interactive donut chart rather than the web's stat cards and timeline. The pivot lives on a separate reports screen.
