The insights page shows what your subscriptions add up to, normalized so plans on different billing cycles can be compared. Open it from the Subscriptions page; it lives at Subscriptions insights. Unlike the other insights pages, this one summarizes your current subscriptions rather than a date range.
Choosing what you see
- Type — a segmented toggle switches between expense and income subscriptions. The two are always shown separately — income and expense are never netted or combined. Defaults to expense.
- Cost basis — a segmented toggle switches between monthly and yearly normalization, so a yearly plan and a monthly plan are compared on the same footing.
- Amount basis — a segmented toggle switches between gross, net and tax. It's independent of the cost basis: pick the period first, then which part of the cost you want within it, so monthly net and monthly tax always add back to monthly gross. Only subscriptions with a tax rate have anything to show under Net or Tax; on the Tax basis the untaxed ones drop out entirely, which is what makes it a "what am I paying in tax" view rather than a version of the same chart.
- Scope — a toggle includes or excludes inactive subscriptions. By default only active subscriptions count.
What it shows
- Breakdown by tag — normalized cost grouped by tag, using your configured tag colors.
- Breakdown by billing period — normalized cost grouped by how often each subscription bills.
Exporting
The Export action carries your type, cost-basis, amount-basis, and scope choices to the insights exports page. The generated report states both bases on its summary page, so a net-basis export can't be mistaken for a gross one — and regenerating it later reproduces the same figures. The grouping picker is format-aware: PDF gives each grouping its own report section, XLS puts each grouping on its own tab, and CSV holds a single grouping. Exports run in the background; see Export data.
On mobile
- The insights screen draws each breakdown as an interactive donut chart — tap a slice or legend row to highlight it — instead of the web list layout.
- The same controls are present: expense/income type, monthly/yearly cost basis, gross/net/tax amount basis, and the active-only/all scope; your choices are remembered. Export runs from the web app.
